World on edge following assassination of top Iranian general

‘Trump Rattles Mideast With Risky Strike’

That was the headline from Yahoo News earlier, as the whole world was put on high alert, following a decision by the Trump Administration to assassinate General Qassem Soleiman, Iran’s top military mastermind, who was also considered by many to be the second most powerful man under the Ayatollah.

According to the report:

Donald Trump ordered the killing of a top Iranian general on Thursday, and in his characteristic style, the president made sure the world knew who was responsible.”

Meanwhile, news reports flooded the internet from various media outlets, with everyone reporting on the assassination of Soleiman and the very possible retaliation by Iran against western targets, in the Middle East and in the west.

A headline by the Associated Press reads: ‘A more dangerous world’: US killing triggers global alarm’.

“PARIS (AP) — Global powers warned Friday that the American airstrike responsible for killing Iran’s top general made the world more dangerous and that escalation could set the entire Mideast aflame. Some U.S. allies suggested Iran shared in the blame by provoking the attack.”

Following the assassination of Soleiman, world leaders appealed for calm, as if Iran will simply forget about the matter and opt for diplomatic discussion.

"His reign of terror is over"

A French newspaper reported that tens of thousands of Iranian citizens protested in Tehran, chanting “Death to America”, as they held up placards of the slain general.

US President Donald Trump further aggravated the situation recently by tweeting,

“He should have been taken out many years ago!”

Former acting and deputy CIA director, Michael Morell told CBS News:

"Soleimani was an evil genius, he had a lot of American blood on his hands," Morell said. "The world is a better place without him. The problem is that comes at a very high cost. Number one, there will be dead Americans, dead civilian Americans, as a result of this. Possibly over the next few days in any place where Iran has its proxies, Iraq is the most likely place, but also Lebanon, Bahrain, other places in the Middle East."

Officials in the city of New York have already begun security preparations in anticipation of inevitable retaliation by Iran on western targets.

Mayor de Blasio told NewsTrust.org,

“We have to assume this action puts us in a de facto state of war,"

Following the assassination, President Trump told NBC News:

"We caught him in the act and terminated him," Trump said in a brief address. "His reign of terror is over."

Of course, this is the first time in the past decade since the US Military entered the middle east that Iran has been accused of direct military aggression against US targets. The assassination of General Soleiman (if truly dead) may be an enormously miscalculated decision by The Trump administration.

The Russian government condemned the assassination of General Soleiman, labeling the attack as a, "reckless step" that risked, "regional peace and stability."
