Cinema Treasure: The Rosebank Theatre

From Rock Nation:

A friend of mine posted this pic on our WhatsAPP group. Many of us will remember the old Rosebank Theater from the early 70s and 80s. It was once Bermuda's only movie theatre, situated on Bermudian Road, Hamilton, in the exact location where the Butterfield Bank now sits. The Rosebank could seat between 800-1,000 people at a time; but that number could be disputed. One source actually placed the seating capacity at 1,600 persons.

Bermudians remember movies, which were first seen in Rosebank, such as Bambi, which was originally released in 1942, Close Encounters, released in 1977, The Return of the Jedi, released in 1983 and the hugely popular, ET The Extra Terrestrial, released in 1982, were all first released in Bermuda on the big screen at the Rosebank Theatre.

Bermuda Source aims to become Bermuda's first choice for compelling and engaging content on a variety of topics. We encourage and promote interaction and in-depth discussion, as well as sharing different views and opinions about living life in Bermuda.
