Global Challenge 2019 has begun!

The Bermuda Government is behind the local drive to promote health and fitness in Bermuda. This year the theme is a 100-day challenge to promote healthy and active lifestyles.

Teams of seven can take part in the event which runs from July 10 to October 18, 2019. On Thursday evening, five members of staff from the Transport Control Department answered the challenge.

Led by their trainer, Vaughn “Mad Dog” Davis, participants, Sue Smith, Sandra Beach, Linda Wall and Yolanda Johnston, kicked off their 100 day challenge with a robust power walk (laced with light jogging) through the scenic railway trail in Hamilton Parish.

“Give me 30 knee raises”! Shouted Vaughn, as he halted the group in random locations to add just a little extra intensity to maintain active heart rates.

“I want ten thousand steps”, said Sue Smith, who encouraged the team to take just 500 extra steps across the bridge one more time and back to reach the goal.

The session concluded with light body-weight activity and a cool down, led by Yolanda Johnston. The team will assemble again on Monday at 6pm at the Arboretum for another group training session. I will certainly be there to get in on the action!

There is still plenty of time to join the 100-day challenge. The greatest gift humanity can give to itself is the enjoyment of better health and activity that extends well beyond 100 days. That’s the real challenge. So get moving!
